Towards raising awareness on the plight of IDPs in Nigeria by recognizing their courage and resilience while ensuring their participation in society and relevant decisions that affect them and promote their empowerment. 


The National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons celebrated The National Day for Internally Displaced Persons, This marks the adoption of the ground breaking (Kampala Convention) for the protection and assistance of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Africa as the first legally binding regional instrument in the world that imposes on states the obligation to protect and assist IDPs.


The HFC disclosed that the day was marked to bring to fore the unwavering resilience and determination of Internally Displaced persons in Nigeria and the resolve of the Federal Government at ensuring their total rehabilitation, reintegration and resettlement.


In Attendance was President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR ably represented by The Chief of Staff to the President Alh Ibrahim Gambari, The Honourable Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouq who was the Chief Host, The Minster of Women Affairs Dame Pauline Tallen, The Executive Governor of Nassarawa State Engr AA Sule ably represented by The Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State Dr. Emmanuel Agbadu Akabe, The Executive Governor of Yobe State His Excellency Mai Mala Buni ably represented by The Deputy Governor of Yobe State Idi Barde Gubana, The Chairman Senate Committee on Special Duties Sen. Yusuf A Yusuf, The Chairman Senate Committee of IDP’s Hon Muhammad Jega, Executive Director National Primary Health Development Agency Dr Faisal Shuaib, MD/CEO Rural Electrification Agency Ahmad Salihijo Ahmad, The President of Defence and Police officers wives association Mrs Victoria Irabor, Representatives of Service Chiefs amongst others.
